92 mariner 100hp starter will not engage.

I have a 1992 100hp mariner . I replaced the starter 3 months ago and the motor would crank right up. I went to start it this weekend and the starter spins but does not jump up to engage the fly wheel it just spins. Please help.

Make sure the battery is fully charged and in good condition. Have it load tested regardless of age. Make sure all battery cables are clean and tight at both ends. Manually turn the bendix and it should raise smoothly and engage the fly wheel very easily. If not clean and lightly lube the shaft it rides up and down on.
