The oil line going into the motor housing broke while going across the lake at full throttle. The motor died instantly like the ignition was turned off. It restarted with a minor tick. I towed it to the trailer and replaced the plastic part. The motor runs fine, but continues to have a tick. What is the first thing I should check.

Start with yr and ,model number, I guess its VRO?

where does the tick originate?
try a long screwdriver against your ear or a length of clean hose to listen.
My guess is the pump but...

You may have locked the engine up due to overheat due to lack of lube. I'd pull the heads and have a look. Make sure the cylinder liner bridges in the intake and exhaust area did not crack. You could also pull the side covers off for a look inside at the rings and pistons. Make sure the cylinder walls did not scuff (aluminum transfer from the pistons.)

Re: Johnson 150 Tick

It's a 1993 model TJ150GLETG. I looked at the pump and from what I have gathered on the internet is I'll have to replace the pump because they don't make a rebuild kit for the oil side. Would buying a rebuild kit for the gas side solve the tick. When I see a breakdown of the pump kit it mainly consist of diaghrams and O-rings. I didn't notice any rotating parts that would look like the culprit. I'm hoping you can help me because I sure don't want to have to go into the motor to check for a deeper issue.
