9.9 Water discharge question

I just bought a 1986 9.9 off Craigslist. I had the guy put it in a barrel and run it for me. It runs fine, however I could not see where ir is discharging water from the water pump. He said it discharges under water. Does anyone know if that is true? Thank you.

There should be a hose from the block to pisser hole at the lower back of motor make sure it's not dryrotted and letting water inside hood. You need to do an impeller change anyway since you dont know when it was done last .dont run it until you get it figured out.

critters love to crawl up the tale tell tube, and nest there. the opening should be on the right rear corner of the motor. looking from the back.

Thanks guys. For splitting the case, where does the shifter linkage come apart at-- the round tube above the cavitation plate?
