I have a 70 horse Evinrude, year model between 77 and 84 i believe. Runs perfectly with the muffs on in the driveway and ok in the water. It idles ok sometimes and sometimes it will eventually shut off when idling. The biggest problem so far is when i take off under a load, it seems to "bogg down" and has to slowly pick up power and speed til it eventually will get on plane and run fine. I have good compression on all cylinders and good spark on my plugs. I run it alot so my fuel is always fresh. I rebuilt the carbs several months ago and it ran great for a while. Any ideas on what to check next?

Did you rebuild the fuel pump when you did the carbs?

I have not rebuilt the fuel pump. Are there rebuild kits available or would it be best to go with a new pump altogether? Any advice on the pump rebuild would be greatly appreciated. I have done quite a bit of auto engine work and a little small outboard repair, but this is my first larger outboard so i am learning as i go.

I also have a evinrude 70hp 1982 with the same problem. I had my wife and kids out yesterday was able to pull them around on the tube but need to find the problem I fish alot and need consistant power. I'll be watching to see what your problem is. My carbs were rebuilt last year and new power packs. it seems to be a fuel issue. tight lines to ya.
