Engine revs in forward

Last year I had an incident where the motor was started in forward, throttle set at mid-range, and the motor lock on release. The motor climbed right out of the water to the stops before I shut it down.

Since then, I can't get any thrust to the prop beyond low idle. The engine revs up fine, boat moves forward slightly, but no more power to the prop with added rpms.

The shifter seems to be OK, and a local mechanic checked it out as well. He also checked to see if a shear pin (not sure where ...) had been shorn, but all was well there.

After the mechanic determined all was well, I put it back in the water, and seeing the same behavior.

Any ideas?

Re: Engine revs in forward

You probably have a spun prop. Remove prop and mark a line through the middle to the outside. Put it back on the shaft and test run it then look at the lines and see if they still align. If they don't the rubber mount is shot and you will need to get it repaired and/or replaced. Best of luck. Rick.

motor does not have shear pin, probably spun prop.
