too much thrust?

Hello
I have a 17' 1972 fabuglass trihull bass boat. I am bidding on a trolling motor on ebay, but I am wondering if it is too much thrust. The motor is 70# of thurst.

I was told I need about 50#. My concern is if the lowest speed on a 70# is too fast...

Any thoughts?

I use a 70 lb TM on a light 17 footer and it is not too much thrust. You do realize that is a 24V motor? What model and make is it?

It is an older minn kota. I know it is 24 volts, I am not sure the significance though... 2 24 volt batteries? is that a pain?

Two 12 volt batteries - not two 24 volt batteries. If you are using the slower speeds all the time then the motor is a waste because you need 24 volts to operate it when a single 12 volt battery and a Minnkota or MotorGuide 45 - 55 would be adequate.

yes sorry I meant 2 12 volt batteries. I understand it would be a waste but if I am getting it cheaper than I can find a minn kota/motorguide 45-55 is it still a good idea?
