1976 johnson 55hp. wont crank

or let me put it this way,it cranks and starts if I jump the solenoid,runs fine,the remote key switch wont do it,checked all the wires in the remote ,and the key switch itsself for continuity,in the different stages,all checked out,cheked the fuse ,it was ok as well,any ideas fellas?

If the small 3/8" ground nut of the solenoid actually leads to a powerhead ground, then there is a safety switch within the control box that is either faulty or out of adjustment.

If that wire does not go to ground, it leads to a safety switch attached to the powerhead (same scenario).

The exception being is that if that wire does lead directly to a powerhead ground, and you apply 12 volts to the other small 3/8" solenoid nut AND nothing happens...... the solenoid is faulty.
