3 Holes for blower?

My new to me Searay SRV-240 is almost ready to hit the water. But I have run into a little snag. The blower was just sitting in the engine compartment so I went to reattach it when I discovered an additional 2 holes in the for lack of a better term blower box. These holes have what appear to be plastic mounts for additional vent hose for some reason. All 3 of these are connected so when the blower is on air is blown back out the open holes.

If I am sucking bad fumes out with the blower into the blower box and then out the back of my boat why would you have 2 additional holes going back to the engine compartment? These 2 holes are the same size or bigger than the blower mount hole. I am sure more air returns to the engine compartment via these holes than is exausted out the back of the boat. Why? I know I have to be missing something here.

Re: 3 Holes for blower?

Some blowers are set up to suck up fumes from seperate areas. Most gas fumes are heavier than air and settle in the low spots
