The boys have just purchased their first boat with a Force 125 that won't start. I took a look see and found the rectifier did not look like it was wired correctly. I have a black wire going from - to starter case. I have a red going from +. I have a green W/ yellow stripe on one ac side and another green w/ yellow stripe and a purple on the other ac side. Checked continuity and found the rectifier is bad and both greens are shorted. Is this the correct setup for this device?

That is not a Website or Forum issue. Moving to Force outboard forum.

Yes that is the correct wiring. Terminal on rectifier with " - " goes to ground. Terminal with " + " goes to battery. Terminals with " ~ " are AC input from stator (green w/yellow stripe). Purple wire is output to tachometer.

You should read almost a dead short between the two green wires w/yellow stripes when disconnected from the rectifier.

Re: Force 125 rectifier wiring

The rectifier does not play any part in the starting of the engine. It's only purpose is to provide an unregulated DC voltage to the battery.

When you say it will not start, do you mean it turns over but wont fire or will it not turnover.

Please give us some additional symptoms as well as what you have attempted and the age and condition of the battery.

Regards,

John
