Need some help. I have a 1979 Mercury v6 motor that does not want to fire on #3 cylinder all the time. Some times it fires and sometimes it doesn't and I can't figure out why. Replaced spark plugs, changed fuel, cleaned out carb.
The motor will not start after it sits for a few days and I need to prime the top carb. I actually think I have two problems going on. I think the carbs might need rebuilt because the needles have rings on them indicating wear and it still has the original cork floats. Plus I think there is an electrical problem somewhere causing that #3 cylinder not to fire. Not having trouble with the other cylinders just #3.
Last I ran the boat on open water it ran OK at lower speed and when I really gave it the gas it slowly excelerated and then suddenly it was like it kicked into overdrive. The boat had to be running at 50+ across the lake. When I slowed down it ran a tad rough but kept running.
Anybody have any ideas or experienced similar problem?
