I have 1990 maxum with a 120hp L drive. I started it up but when i went to turn it off it would not turn off. So i pulled the kill switch an nothing happened it just kept on running. So i had to pull two spark plugs off. And then it shut off. I don't know what caused it or how to fix it? It also idled up really hi and could not turn the idle down. I don't know if these two thing are related.

It sounds like a problem with your switch not grounding out the CDI units.

The switch grounds the CDI units when it is turned off. Either the ground is bad, the switch is bad or the wire to the terminal block from the switch is bad.

You need to meter out the ground from the switch first and see if it is good. Then, with the engine running, jumper between the kill wire, which should be white (check the manual) and the ground. If this works, the switch is bad.
