Figured out what i was doing wrong with my Tilt/Trim motor replacement and thought I'd post the solution in case anyone is having the same problem.
92 Mercury 90 HP - single ram tilt/trim, 2-wire, square base body.
Got a new replacement for the motor on Ebay, let out the bottom screw about 2 turns, lifted the motor manually, locked it with the latch.
Pulled the motor/ram together, installed the new motor on the base, filled the reservoir with AFT fluid, reinstalled the combo unit, closed the bottom screw, unlatched the engine. Ran the up/down circuits over and over again. Motor ran, but no movement of the engine. Tried bleeding, but had no affect.
Pulled the unit again and really studied how it worked. Turns out that the little drive pin (came with the new motor) that engages the pumping mechanism and turns it one way for up and the other way for down was 1/8" shorter than the one on the old trim motor. I swapped pins and reinstalled as before. Bingo. We got tilt!
I felt stupid that I forgot to compare the lengths of the pins, but here's hoping someone sees this and doesn't spend 3 hours (like I did) on what should have been a simple swap.
