89 Force 50 hp NO POWER

I have a 1989 force 50 hp on a maxum I bought at the end of last summer. When purchased the boat had sat for about three years prior to my purchase. After purchasing I changed the impeller, drained all gas, new fuel lines, new plugs, and new float in the carb. This is my first boat and do not know a whole lot about the motor.

The motor starts and runs very smoothly but will not get over 5 maybe 10 mph. I do not have a tach on the boat so can not tell you how high it is running. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. From reading through other forums I was thinking it maybe a fuel problem still because when i take the fuel line off of the carb and turn it over it is not coming out in a steady stream. But also the bottom spark plug has NO build up on it the electrode looks as though it has been firing but have not had a chance to get a spark tester. and also the bottom cylinder after i took the cover off looked clean. Any ideas as to where this power loss maybe coming from?

The first thing I would do would be to go to an auto parts store and get yourself a compression tester. Once you know that BOTH cylinders are in good shape, then you can proceed. Also, you can check for spark at each cylinder.Remove the fuel line and one of the spark plug wires. Hold the sparkplug boot close to the tip of the plug or cylinder head and have someone crank the motor. You should see a good, bright blue spark. If there is no spark or the spark is orange, you have a coil problem most likely.

change your fuel pump diaphram, easy to do and not expensive
