I have a 1977 55hp Johnson outboard. The other day i was on the water and a screw vibrated loss out of my breather box and managed to make it through to my reeds. It went no futher than that i pulled it back out gently. My next time on the water i had lost compression on cylinder. Could this be related even if the screw never went all the way into the reeds?

If i wanted to look inside this motor at head gaskets, what is the best way to go about that?

timing

timing

How do I check my timing on a 55 hp johnson? It will bogg down when the throtle is wide open and runs with alot of viberations. Runs ok everywhere except at full throtle.

Re: timing

Timing will be irrelevent until you get compression on both cylinders.

If your compression turns out ok I'd look at a fuel related issue
