Mariner 5hp 2 stroke won't rev out under load
I've just put this motor back together after removing the power head and lower unit as it was blocked up by salt build-up in the drive shaft housing.
When testing it today as a kicker on my boat, the motor seems to reach only about 1/2 throttle when in gear. The revs rise and fall a bit when the throttle is held wide open. It was exactly the same in reverse. It will rev no problem in neutral and will tick over fine at idle.
The gears all seem to engage fine, just as they did before I took it apart. It also starts no problem.
I have only ever warmed the motor up in neutral before taking the boat out, so cannot be sure that it wasn't doing this before. 1999 motor owned from new.
