HELP! I bought a used 1974 25 hp Johnson recently. The motor seems to slip out of gear however the prop continues to spin. I have removed the lower unit and checked the following:
clutch dog - good
gears - good
linkage-good
Purchased a new prop nut
replaced shifter lock
I also had my prop refurbished ( they said the hub was good )
If you hold the shift lever down it does not slip ( however then it would take two people to operate the motor on my boat)
Any help would be greatly appreciated
