Mercury Mark 30 -- Serial # Locations?

My father left me with a very nice, mostly original Mark 30 with tiller steering. The serial number plate is missing from just above the transom mounts, however. Everything else is there and looks exceptionally clean; the "Tested OK" inspection sticker looks almost new which seems to indicate low hours.

I've removed the cowling and looked for other indications of serial numbers to no avail. Anyone know where I might look to find the serial number?
