Hey im a newb and i am having a problem with my boat not getting spark. The reason for this issue i believe is because i had to swop out my ignition switch because i lost the keys and when i did it went from a 3 prong to a 5 prong and i dont know where the wires go. I believe the new switch would work i just dont know how to hook it up.it has two (M) a (B) a (A) and a (S). the old one just had Sol, IGN, and Bat, The boat hasnt been run in 2 years. Please help. The motor is a V6 4.3L Mercruiser out of a 87 Sea Ray CC. Thanks for the help.

Re: ignition problem PLEASE HELP

B is the hot lead from the battery
S is the lead from the starter solenoid
M is for the lead to the magneto + (or coil, or ignition wire)
M is for the lead to the mageto - (or ground, or if not using a magneto ignition can be left empty)
As for what M is what M you would have to test that. If it is not marked + or -
A is for accessory if you can turn the key to the left, and should be hot when turned to the run position.

Hope this helps. You could always map them out with a multimeter. Put it on continuity, put one lead on B, the touch the other lead to the other terminals to see what position the switch is in when they make contact.

Re: ignition problem PLEASE HELP

Thanks I ended up just buying another switch. Wher-Rena Boatland in NC said the first switch I bought was for a outboard motor. So i got one that is used for a stren drive and it worked like a champ. Thanks for the advice. I love this site.
