Hello I just bought my first boat thought was getting a good deal didn't know what to look for when bought just put water hose to it and cranked right up put in gear and worked good. Well took to lake put in water and wouldn't steer come to find out had to put new steering cable $300 ok fixed that then went to lake again and wasn't peeing water but at home when hooked to water hose it did come to find out thats not how you check to see if water pump working so water pump $150. Ok well fixed that had the mechnic try out boat in water and everything before picked up he said ran good. Keep in mind these two trips to lake I never got the boat off the trailer. Ok went to take boat out decided to try out at home first and won't start. the starter engages and everything but its like not getting fuel. Then i noticed beside the bulb pump hose had hole so i cut hose and refitted and pumped the pressure back up and nothing. Checked spark plug and its getting spark. Checked fuel filter and its not blocked. Could there be maybe air trapped in carberutor or something i dont know what to do i dont want to spend more money that i dont have please help any ideas.
Thanks red sky well I got a friend to look at it and it looks like it's the carbs that need rebuit. I was wondering how hard is it to do could do it myself is there any videos on the web on this model of motor. They look like there double carbs an there's three of them. Any help is greatly appriated. Another thing I've been looking at kits to rebuild and there's so many kind what do I need just gaskets or rebuild or repair kit and do I need the jets or the needles? Please help thanks
Pony, Id the carbs do not leak, you may just install gaskets. They are avail many places on the web. You will need three kits, and they should be $8 or so each. GLM, Sierra and Merc all sell kits. If the carbs leak gas, install inlet needles. You never need to replace jets under normal circumstances. It will pay you to get a service manual. Merc is the best.
