I am helping a friend with his 1957 - JOHNSON -7.5. We got it running but we can not figure out is why the water is running out from what seems like out of nowhere. All of the water that is supposed to cycle through the block then out the exhaust. seems to be coming out through the bottom front of the engine below the plugs. The engine runs fine and no water is getting in the cylinders.
I know this because no water at all is coming out of the exhaust and the plugs are dry. What could it be?

on that model I believe you have to take the powerhead off to replace the impeller. Somebody replaced the impeller and did not put a new gasket on it.

Possibility #2:
There is a core plug (Welsh plug, freeze plug) in the bottom of the head. They corrode out and water gushes forth.

Remove the lower rear pan and you will be able to see where it is coming from.

I have a similar issue, though I had already found the freeze plug leaking. I cannot (nor can my marina) find a part number (or probably a source wehn I get the number) for a new plug.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Dave
