I have 62 fisher scott 71/2 hp. I'm looking for 90 w gear oil and all I see is 80w-90w.
Is this the same stuff ? Is it safe to use in my motor ?

If the oil container is marked for use in outboard motor gearcases, you're probably OK. If not, you need to buy oil formulated for that use. You can find it at Walmart or any marine store. It's clearly marked as high viscosity gear oil for outboards. It's a little different than the stuff that goes into auto and truck differentials. It can handle the absorbtion of some water and still lubricate well.

Get the right stuff and preserve you outboard.
