Im Not Very Good When It Comes To Outboards. I've Got An 87' Hydra Sport Bass Boat With An 85hp Merc On It. I Blew The Bottom End On It And Had A Mechanic Rebuild It. Well I Took It On The Water And Noticed It Had Lost Alot Of Power, Im Only Getting To About 35mph, As Before I Could Do 45-50mph...when I Came To A Stop I Looked Back In Curiosity And Seen Water Spitting Out Of The Exhaust, Now I Dont Remeber It Doing That Before. I Know It Comes Out The Pee Hole..... So I Called The Mechanic And He Told Me It Was Normal For It To Come Out Of The Exhaust.... Is This True???

Ayuh,.... That is True...

You should have your Mechanic give it a Tune-up,+ change the Fuel Filters...

Thank You Bond-o:

He Told Me They Tuned It Up When He Changed Out The Bottom End, But I Dont Think They Changed The Fuel Filter, I Will Try That.... Thank You For The Info, It Just Didnt Seem Right For Water To Come Out Of The Exhaust, But Like I Said I Dont Know Much About Marine Motors.

Is it possible your mechanic just swapper lower units maybe with one of a different gear ratio? Not saying he ripped you off, just maybe he has stock rebuilt units he can swap out.

Are you running the same prop before and after?

Mmmm, I Guess That Could Be Possible...thats One Reason I Do All My Own Work On My Cars, But Not Very Good With Marine Yet, So Still Resorting To Taking Someones Word On Their Work
