1982 Evinrude 50 hp impeller install ?

Frank has a great post that informed me to twist in my impeller counter-clockwise on my Force motor.

Now on my 50hp Evinrude my manual states to make sure the old impeller is put on the same way it came out if re-used. Well I misplaced the old impeller, so my question is do I place this impeller in with a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction?

Clockwise. After installing the impeller over the driveshaft key slide the housing over the shaft and turn the driveshaft in the same direction the engine would normally turn it to get the impeller to compress into the housing. Many years ago the thought was that by reversing the impellor the unworn side of the impeller blades would be used. Unfortunately, often as not the impeller blades would break off and cause a cooling failure. Definitely a false economy.

i spray my impeller and housings with WD40 then apply pressure to the housing, while turning the drive shaft clockwise. it pops right on.
