Does someone please know if it OK to use an alternate oil filter besides OEM, such as Fram or STP or ???, and the part number for one of these? Also, an acceptable/recomended oil type and quantity, and spark plug for this engine? My boat and books are 180 miles from me, and I would like to take the parts with me when I go this weekend. Thanks for your help!
The only alternative to the Yamaha oil filter (69J-13440-00-00) that I know of is the Sierra 18-7906-1, But I wouldn't use it myself. See here. Can't help you much with oil either as I use the Yamaha brand, but capacity is 5.5 qts. Plugs are NGK LFR5A-11, Gap .039 - .043. (These are specs for my 07 F150 - I assume your 06 calls for the same?)
