Hi,

I have a Johnson with the following model and serial numbers:

Mod FD-11 K
Serial 1641963

I'm a little confused. The FD-11 K parts seems to indicate that it's a 50s 18 hp (from what I was able to Google.) but this isn't that. It's mechanically identical to the Erude/Johnsons from around 72-79 or thereabouts.

Re: Year of Johnson 25hp? (Model & Serial Number Included.)

Hi guys,

I wonder if maybe somewhere along the line maybe the stern-bracket assembly was damaged and one was scavenged off of a 57'? doesn't look ...

Wow. As I was writing that last sentence, I broke off and Googled 57 Johnson 18hp and looked closely at the stern-bracket and clamp screws. (since the number-plate is on the bracket)

'57 clamp-screws are shaped like mine and painted dark red. ( I can see remnants of dark red paint underneath at least three other colors of more "recent" blue coats. I see no evidence that anything was ever white.)

Best I can tell after going to Evinrude.com and browsing the diagrams, mostly keying off the carb diagrams, I have probably a '71-'76 powerhead, and I think shaft/exhaust assembly/LU, but with at very least the bracket from a '57 18hp.

Frankenmotor.

Wow. I also just read (duckworksmagazine.com) that early '70s 25hps were basically up-tuned 18s. And after looking a little more closely, the paint on the head appears to have once been red. It might have come off the old scavenged 18hp as well.

Holy smokes, man.

Well, now I just feel silly.

It's a 1972. 25202R. Some ptient soul told me to look on the casting plug. Model number's right there.

You have to admit, the conspiracy theory was pretty entertaining though, right?

Lol.

Thanks anyway, guys.

Lol. You wouldn't be the first to be fooled by a replacement stern bracket.
