How well will a 1975 4 hp 2 stroke johnson be on a 14' fiberglass V hull boat. And will it be safe. Does any one have any experience/know of with the setup of this type. this will only be a small lake or creek boat.

if the shaft is the right length it will be fine, if the shaft is short it will be like an egg beater. don't expect to win any races.

The 4hp design is actually a slightly revised design of the old 3hp of many years past, in my humble opinion a design that would be hard pressed to be improved upon.

However, as with all mechanical machines, things can go wrong at times.

Safety depends on the operator...... a pleasant day with a well tuned engine, coupled with responsible actions emits quite a safety margin. Letting the engine develop problems and ignoring them, coupled with boating in a electrical storm while standing and holding a aluminum staff....... well, that sorta kills the safety aspect of the outing.

You'll putt along, but I'm sure you'll be wanting some more hp soon so you can plane.
