Well, today I think I found some problems with the engine.#1:The fuel filter was turned upside down

.Think the previous owner made a mistake here.By turning the filter the wrong way it must be full at all times in order to get a steady stream of fuel to the carbs. The filter was turned so the cap with the fitting for the hose that goes to the pump and carbs was on top, when it in the manual says the cap should be turned down.Do you guys agree with me that this i s correct and that this could have caused the engine to stall.?
after I turned the filter the right way the engine started more easy than it ever has, but still I am a bit worried because the fuel level in the filter is very low when the engine is idling.does anyone know how high the fuel should sit in the filter when the engine is running?Smebody told me that the filter should be half full at all times. Is this correct?
Then to problem number two. After the engine had been idling for a couple of minutes it suddenly started studdering and it was quite obvious that it was missing 1,2 or maybye 3 sylinders.I hooked up my timing light and it was easy to see that none of the 3 sylinders on the left side was firing. Then when the engine was still idling I took the back of a scew driver and tapped the top of the left CDI/powerbox and BANG!, all 3 sylinders came to life emediatly

.It then runs fine for a couple of seconds before it happens all over again, So,I guess I can be pretty sure that the cdi box is shot then?Is there any point in removing the soft clear stuff on the back of it and re solder all the solder points on the print or should I just order a new one right away.Is there any brand of cdi boxes that are better than others?
