mariner-mercury?

morning all. just a quick question.. would mercury & marine serial no's be the same? reason is my mercury serial no -- op409560 ... 2006 i believe! what would a mariner serial no .. 0T178500 be.. age wise? could someone please tell me.. as i have the chance of a mariner manual and just need to know if it might be of use to me!

There are 3 things involed in the year designation and serial number.
1. Is the HP as the numbers can over lap year to year and HP to HP.
2. The 2nd letter acts as the 1st digit of the number so C should never be
newer than that a D inless the C is a carry over engine and is listed as
a next years model. What a nice way not to have to discount year old
engines. Yamaha showed them that trick I believe.
3. Country of manufacture also changes the serial number

So to tell the year you need to have a book or go to the Brunswick download center.
