I purchased the motor in the winter. I rebuilt the carb and changed the impeller. Engine runs great. But sometimes at full throttle the engine keeps cutting in and out. It doesn't stall though. I'm thinking it could be a wiring problem with the ignition. But I'm not quite sure. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Denis

Re: 1979 9.8 cutting out at full throttle

I took a closer look at the wiring and noticed a couple things. A couple of wires were so weathered that the the insulation has flaked off and the wires were extremely corroded.

The biggest problem is one of the wires going into the switch box is so worn that the wire is ready to break off. The switch box is sealed so I can't simply replace the wire, and a new box is $270.00. Has anyone ever cut into the switch box to replace wires, then reseal it? Before I attempt it, I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on where to cut, and how, and best way to reseal it.

Thanks again.
