1995 225 Evinrude Big bore looper spitting out of #5 carb

I just rebuilt a 225 evinrude looper and had a sleeve put in cyl # 5 the sleeve did not have the small hole above exhaust port.engine has more compression on cyl 5 and spits back thru carb at Idle.Is the reason it is doing this because it didnt have this hole in sleeve.The man that put sleeve in said it wouldnt matter and I took him at his word.

OOOhhhh...not good.
That's a finger-ported looper and depends on all the little ports and holes for proper operation.
Those posts and holes in the sleeves match up with the holes in the piston skirt.

Not good.

Its ok, the little hole above exhaust port is a compression relief, which do not come drilled in replacement sleeves, machinist must drill this after installation.This will not cause it to spit out carb. Check the reed block for a bent leaf or being held open by a piece of debris. Also check the reed block gasket. I plug my customers reliefs with set screws if they want the extra compression as it add about 10psi.

Wow...great. It is good to know. I am glad he doesn't have to oull it all apart again.

correction it was spitting out # 6 carb .I was forgetting they cross.It had a reed gasket bad.now it spits out exhaust.it is running lean at idle on cyl#2 spits out exhaust until I cover part of carb opening on carb # 2.which is making it run richer and it idles great then . removed carb cleaned ,no difference .adjusted screw in carb ,no difference. Im stuck.I know its lean but dont know how to fix.Any help would be appreacited.

Either the cover plate on side of carb is leaking or o-ring seal on rear of carb is damaged or leaking. The air idle screw should be about 5 1/2 turns out.
