I have a 60 hp johnson that has set up for 8 years and when trying to start it, it turns over strong 3 turns then will barely turn over. I am wondering if bugs could somehow clog the exhaust, building up pressure so it doesnt' turn over right? I have already replace all wires from battery and replaced starter also tried several different batteries. thanks.

Re: can this happen

Get some oil in the cylinders before turning it over. Eight years is too long between runs to assume the walls are coated. Rick.

Carefully check the ends of any heavy cables you didn't replace for heat.
Water intrusion might cause it to lock up.Severe flooding may do the same thing. The timing could be off.Severe flooding after sitting so long would be my first look.

thanks I had put some oil in the cylinders yesterady and removed all the plugs. the motor would turn over well with out the plugs in. I got it fire up today and a ring broke inside of the 3rd piston and made a big mess. thanks for all the help.
