I have a 1969 johnson 85 hp motor. I cannot get it to fire. I changed the rectifier because the wires were bare, checked the stator and it passed the ohm tests. Changed the amplifier and coil. gapped the points at .020 . Still nothing. I have no electrical value at the blue wire coming out of the amplifier. It attaches to the terminal strip and the coil hot wire connects there. Does anyone have any idea how the amplifier works? I have 12v at the red wire and 12v at the grey wire. No voltage at the black and white wire when plugged in to the distributor but 5.83 volts when i unplug it. I'm sure that until I get voltage to the blue wire it won't start but don't understand what supplies voltage and how it gets to the blue wire throught the amplifier.
