No oil Alarm

I have a 1993 50hp that has vro /oms problems. When the engine is on low revs ie under about 2000 or at idle after about five minutes i get the no oil alarm coming on one beep every 1-2 seconds or so. when the revs are increased the alarm goes off. the manual doesnt seem to ffer much help in this direction. plent of oil in the tank. Any advice would be greatfully recieved
