Vro To Standard Fuel Pump Help Needed

HI,i have a 1989 Johnson 60 hp. i changed the VRO fuel/oil pump to a standard pump all works good but at top speed around 28 to 30 mph after 5 minutes it starts to speed up and slow. i can stop for a minute or so and let it idle. and i'm up and running for about 5 minutes and the something. i put a fuel filter from a auto parts store on it. HELP.

Hi. Sounds a silly question, but are you mixing the fuel with oil @ 50:1?
If you dont it will overheat and seize.

Try running without the fuel filter; the filter is probably the problem.
