I have a 1997 25hp tracker made by mercury marine. Just got done changeing the impeller. Had to go the the boat store and get a part i ordered before i could put the lower unit back on. when i got home and started to put the motor back together i realized i forgot to pick up a tube of gear oil. My manual does not specify what type, just gives me a capacity. Is there a specific type of oil i should use or would any gear oil be ok? I have some
80W-90 that i use for my motor cycle gear case. Valvoline (API services GL-5, MT-1). Could that be used or should i just go back to the boat store. Thanks

Re: lower gear case oil

Any good reputed brand transmision oil will be ok, W-80, W-90 or multigrade W 80/90 will work just fine, that's what most engine manufacturer's recommends. Change each 100 hours work.

Happy Boating
