Yamaha F225 Engine Life

I'm considering buying a 27' Grady White center console with 2003 Yamaha F225 fourstokes. The engines have 585 hours on them. I had the dealer run a performance history and over 300 of the 585 hours were run at under 1000 RPM, the boat was used mostly for fishing and as such there was a lot of low RPM hours.

questions:

1) how many hours are these engines good for before they wear out?
2) anything I need to watch out for?
3) Given that a high number of hours were run at very low RPM, assuming this is better than the same hours at higher engine speeds...any thoughts?

Thanks sincerely in advance for any help with this....

With meticulous care I would expect those Yammys to go 4,000-5,000 hours without major trouble.

Avoid "making oil" and service when scheduled and you have about 90% of the engines' life left.

Re: Yamaha F225 Engine Life

without a model number all I can say is that general range of the V6 F motors had about 4 recalls regaurdless of warrenty status.
make sure they have been done. if they have not Yamaha will pay.
other than that some of the F V6 motors have had some crankshaft to oil pump seal issues at the 1500-2000 hour range.
easly fixed, takes 4-5 hours.
even if your engine is out of warrenty call yamaha and disscuss options.
the F200 was a mutt, good engine low on balls, the F225 was a decent copy of the F200 and both worked very very well.
and the recalls were not bad things just things they found worked better.
make sure they can turn a minimum of 5800 RPM with its normal load, check the warrenty history and go play.
very solid engines.
Yamaha even offers a used warrenty program that certain dealers can set you up with.
