Hello everyone, thanks for a great site. I have learned much from this website this past year. I installed two new throttle cables on my 115 evinrude oceanpro 97' but I can't get the engine to go into reverse. Are the upper and lower cables identical? Just the top cable was broken, should I just reinstall the bottom cable? How do I go about adjusting the cable? Thanks in advance for any help.
the cable are identical, what have you done to determine it is the cable that is the problem. did you disconnect cable at the motor? did you try to manually shift the motor to see if it will go into reverse? had the lower unit been off just prior to this problem starting?
Installing control cables.
1. set controls in neutral and at idle.
2. manually make sure motor is in neutral and at idle.
3. on the motor end of the cable, is a trunion nut (adjustment nut) there is a retainer, on
the motor for the trunion nut remove the clip.
4. without moving anything on the motor, adjust the trunion nut (turning nut) so that
The nut sits in the retainer, and will connect to the motor.
5. connect the cable to the motor, reinstall the retainer clip.
Note: you adjust the cable to the motor, not the motor to the cable.
