I Just Got A 83 Inline 90hp That Sat For 4 Years, The Motor Has Perfect Comp. Of 155 On Every Hole. I Cleaned The Carbs Replaced All The Fuel Lines New Tank Replaced All Fluids But The Motor Has A Slight Backfire I Can't Get Rid Of. At First The Backfire Was Bad Then Noticed The Gasket On The Intake Side Of The Block Had A Leak And I Was Sucking Air, Fixed That Prob. But Still Have A Minor Miss Or Backfire I Can't Figure Out. Adjusted The Idle Air Mixture Screw But Can't Seem To Get Rid Of It.

Please Help Thanks Dan

Sounds like a dirty dist, carb drop it down and wash it out with hot waer and dish soap, then flush well with hot water and after it's dry check the center carbon replace if neccisary, remember the rotor DOES NOT PULL OFF, clean it if dirty but remember if you break it it's $200+ so use care.

Sorry Dan, I am a little brain dead today, disconnect the 2 yellow wires from the rectifier tape them seperately and test run it engine if that fixs it you need a rectifier and if it don't you need to test the switch boxes bias. You really need to do a complete test on the ign. system with a DVA as the problem you have won't show up with a OHM meter. The other thing it could be is a leaking exhaust port gasket so check the plugs for any sign of water.
