Hello, I just bought a 1971 Mercury 7.5 motor with the Thunderbolt ignition. The guy I bought it from said the stator was bad, he said the engine quit while it was running. I did do a spark check on it and there appeared to be some spark from both cylinders, though weak. How can I know for sure that it is indeed the stator that is the problem, as these can get quite pricey and I would hate to buy a new one and find out that it wasn't the problem. Thanks - Jay M.
