1979 70hp johnson safety switch?

hello boaters! Will someone help me i need to install a out of gear safety switch wires but dont know if it goes between the battery and batt on ignition,or between the starter solonoid and start on ignition.which one is better will either work.my manual says between the battery wires but then i would have no power when it is in gear driving right?help me please im almost ready for test drive on this motor and boat.1964 shell lake boat.16' thank you james and mari

The yellow/red wires goes from S terminal on ignition switch to neutral switch,the other y/r wire from the other side of neutral switch, goes to the solenoid. Get an OMC service manual, it will pay for it self.

I have a seloc manual it doesnt show the neutral safety switch there its showing it between the battery connection.Not shure if this is accurate.Because then the power would not be there when its in gear while im motoring.
