I wish I were able to just take by pontoon to the shop and pay someone to "just fix it" but....
So I used my boat all summer last year no problems.
when I went to take it out of the water for winter
I did my routine of pushing the choke and turning the key till it fires,
it did, stumbled and quit as it does after sitting a week.,
from then on there has been no spark.
I used a link from this site to get a wiring chart and have eliminated
the ignition switch and the kill circut.
just no ignition spark, any "common problems" to check.
The boat is an hour and a half away at the lake (out of the water)
so I'd like to be armed with a check list for this weekend.
Thanks for any pointers

And one more question,
today I have discovered that squirrels have chewed the rubber off my main battery cables to the engine, the damage is where the cables would be in water between motor and boat. can I tape them back up with some heavy
duty tape or do I need to replace the cables?

Can't really help with the ignition problem, but you can tape up the battery cables, Heat shrink tubing is much better. So is fresh squirrel, if prepared properly....:D

"cables would be in water between motor and boat." NO replace them all they will do is corrode and cause you problems.

also do you have an emergency kill lanyard? check it, that will cause no fire.

also you can unplug the big red plug, this takes the control out of the equation. then jump the solenoid, and see if you have spark.

Re: 1995 70 hp with no fire

I have tested for ground on the black/yellow wire at engine
it does ground with switch off, and not when the switch is on,
what is the sequence of componets that are responsible for
creating spark?
any help appreciated!!
