I have a 1987 115hp Evinrude. The steering control arm on the engine is all rusted and I believe it should be replaced. I'm afraid that one of these days it's just going to snap.

Looks like you have to dismantle a large portion of the engine to do this. Anyone have any helpfull hints? Any schematics on-line available?

Must be common on these. I have a 1996 90 that I just got and have this rust and a Friend bought an 1986 90 last year that is rusted there also.

My mistake...the engine is a 1997.

I too have a Seaswirl boat. I wonder if Evinrude made these especially for Seaswirll? In any event, they must be the lower grade engines since they rust like this.
