Help... My Outboard Won't Pee!

Hi,

I took my boat out last fall in weather just above freezing. The motor is a 2006 Johnson 140 horse 4 stroke. I brought the boat out after the day was done and forgot to drop the motor down to drain the wather from the intake. Yes, I know, I'm an idiot. Anyway, the temp dropped below freezing and the next day on the water, the motor wouldn't **** out the back end. I turned it off immediately. My question is, could the just below temperature have frozen the intake enough to crack something? If so, what cracked? Please tell me its just a hose going from the intake on the bottom of the leg and not the leg itself! Is it an easy fix? Or, could it be a different problem intirely? Caution, you're talking to a mechanical moron here, so use little kid language.

Thanks,
Davey

you will not know until you do some investigating. not lowering the motor, could mean there was water in the block also. check compression, if the block cracked it could be letting compression, into the cooling system, not allowing water to come up.

Make sure the pee hole isn't plugged, I can't believe one night at just below freezing would be enough to crack the block, that normally happens at well below freezing for a period of time.

Does it over heat?

The water that comes out the pee hole is just a take off from the block, not all the water that is going through the engine, just to show you it is pumping, so it could still be pumping and not pee.

You don't need to be mechanical to check compression, you just need a ratchet, plug wrench and compression gauge available at any auto parts store, just get what ever they have, no need to get an expensive one.

Pull and ground all plugs or pull your lanyard so the motor doesn't spark, screw the gauge in and crank the engine for a couple revolutions and write down the number, all cylinders should be within 10% and I have no idea what good compression is.

It isn't hard and it is something you should know how to do, post your results.

Run some weedwacker line through the tell-tale outlet....might just be some stuff in there!

That stuff could also be ice.
