1986 Evinrude 70HP VRO

This engine has been awesome and we have not had many problems with it at all. A rock solid engine.

One thing that we have noticed over the past three years is an increasing amount of oil/exhaust combination discharge coming from the exhaust (in the prop) and dripping down the scag. We always de-fog it when we put it away but it happends all year long when in use. can anyone explain?

Decarb, take a can of seafoam put 3/4 of it in the gas tank, with only 1 gallon of premixed gas. put the rest in a spray bottle. start the engine, and let it come up to temperature. then remove plugs, and them some real good shot of seafoam into the cylinders, replace plugs, let sit 15 minutes. restart, and spray the rest of the seafoam into the carbs, so the the motor almost stalls, wait and repeat until the seafoam is gone.then take for a wide open spin. then put in new plugs, ad premixed gas to the tank, and take it for a wide open throttle spin. it is going to smoke like a house on fire, during this process.

86 i believe has the VRO on it , not the VRO2 or the OMS pump. the pump you have you have been lucky with, it could be over oiling.

if it were mine, i would either go to premixed fuel, or have the new OMS pump installed, but they are $400 just for the pump.
if interested in premix, it is a simple conversion.

yeah, that is the exact process that we use. not interested in mixing oil/gas ourselves.
