I have a 2002 Yamaha 15hp 4-stroke that I had out for the first time this year and it ran for about 3 minutes and died. I replaced the fuel filter although it was not the same one. I do not have a marine shop close by so I bought a Fram fuel filter at a local auto parts store. It looks a bit different as it is clear and you can see the filter inside opposed to the one I took off the was skinnier and white. I also changed the spark plugs.

I still cannot get the motor to start. I am unsure about the fuel filter I put on as it only fills up about 1/2 inside.

Any thoughts on this or other problem shooting to get this motor started???

I am guessing at some things cause you didn't post your full model number off the port bracket.

sure sounds like you have a gummed up carb. did you stabilize the fuel and run it through the engine prior to letting the motor sit all those months?

to clean the carbs, take off the float chamber #2, and clean up inside there including the needle valve, main and pilot jets. I use CRC 0604 or tech 2000 from walmart, use safty glasses and skin protection.

if you don't run the motor on a regular basis, add stabilizer to the fuel, either startron or stabil(the Marine/E10 formula)

I just bought the boat used about a month ago, so I am not sure about winterization. Previous owner did sa he did though but who knows.
