Lower unit oil

I have a 1972 50HP Evinrude, electric shift, and uses type C oil. I would like to know if it would be safe to use trane compressor oil No. 22 which is dielectric, moisture resistant, antifoam, and looks and feels to be the same viscosity? This is an industrial screw compressor oil.

I guess my feel about this is, if you are not sure I wouldn't use it. The cost of the "type C" oil can't be that big of a deal.

It doesn't seem wise, considering the cost of replacing the LU.

Bytheway, today is April Fools! Are you serious?

I wouldn't be suprised, but it would take some brass ones to start out their first post as a joke. Unless it's a sock puppet set up by an iboats veteran.

Assuming this is real, why would you even want to try the other stuff? It takes about $15 to fill the lower unit in my '72 65hp. Is the Trane oil that much cheaper?

No big deal, the money is no object. I just had a surplus of that oil and was trying not to just toss it. You never know if you don't ask. Thanks
