Default 1976 mercury 115 trim leak

Hey guys,
I have a pretty steady leak here (drip drip drip) coming from this fitting when trimmed up or down, any idea why? There was no o-ring or gasket of any kind, maybe theres supposed to be one? Thanks in advance!

No gaskets or O rings used. The flare at the bottom is what is suppose to seal it. Make sure its not cross threaded and has to be very tight.

clean the flare real good even the back side of the flare , any debre or burr can cause a leak , if all else fails cut or flare and reflare it with a flaring tool , the flare u have is called a double flare and can be done with a flaring tool
