Having some trouble with the motor spitting water. Had it in to shop, they said water pump is fine and that it was spitting fine on the muffs. Had it out the next day. Was spitting fine at idle and while at full throttle. When I slowed down the only thing coming out was alot of smoke and my alarm sounded. Would not spit any more after that.Any Ideas as to what is going on?

The below guide will give you some ideas, even if you do not have a pressure gauge installed. Better yet, install a pressure guage to troubleshoot your problem...

Re: 1997 Merc 175 efi

i had the same motor in a 150 and it did the same exact thing the only difference it did not stop spitting, when was the last time the popet valve was replaced? when was the water pump replaced and was it just the impellor or the entire kit?whenever i do my water pump i replace every possible piece not just the impeller, thermostates?check and or replace those items first and i you still have problems shut it down and get to a shop because there could be a blockage internally.when you first start it how long til it starts spitting water?
