gearing in trailer wenches

4:1 seems to be the most popular is there a better ratio that would give me easyer hand cranking power under load?:confused:

Mine has a sliding gear that changes the ratio. I never move it because I only winch a foot or two. But it seems like a good idea....

I am with Richard. I just use my winch to snug it up to the nose piece. I'm sure with enough looking you can find a higher ratio but am sure it will cost ya.

A decent two speed winch, is your answer. Here is a link to the one that I use...but don't let the listed price scare you. I got the same winch at my local Boater's World for about $87.

Fulton also makes a nice two speed winch...sold at West Marine.
