My best guess is early eighties but i would need the model number to nail it down to an exact year. Do you have the model number?

Thanks very much. Do you know where I would look on the engine to find the model number?

On the plate there should be 2 lines. The first line is the model number, it begins with 9.9xxxxxxxx. The second line is the serial number, it begins with 682xxxxxxx. There should also be a solitary letter on the bottom right hand corner of the plate, this is the year identification for motors outside of North America.

Gotcha. It appears to be a "S" - does that help to identify the year?

Thanks again for your help...

Depends where the 'S' is on the plate. If it is the bottom corner, your motor is a 1980 model. If it is in the top line, you have a 15" (standard) leg. If it is in the middle line, it means nothing to the end user.

What country are you in? Can you take a pic of the plate and post it here?
